THE NEW CD OF THE PRIMA VISTA QUARTET |
|
| |
|
|
| |
Three french composers:
Gréco Casadesus, Pierre-André Athané and Baudime Jam
|
|
| |
Three French composers, each with their own original poetic universe, present here a selection of recent works from their chamber-music catalogue. Each one of them, in his own way, demonstrates his concern to re-establish a link between the public and contemporary music,
avoiding both ivory-tower academicism and artistic concession. |
|
| |
The Prima Vista Quartet's guest artists are :
Lys Nordet (soprano), Hermine Huguenel (mezzo-soprano) and Daniel Grimonprez (double-bass).

Great families of artists pose the problem of a cultural heritage from which it is necessary, sooner or another, to free oneself whilst preserving the essence and future. Gréco, who, owing to a surprising interval in generations, would find himself to be 50 years younger than his prestigious nephew or first cousins, could not elude this observation: it was necessary to blaze new trails.
Before creating, Gréco produced: at the age of 22, he was artistic director at EMI-Pathé Marconi and recorded more than 200 discs with some of the greatest international artists of the time, including Georges Prêtre, Leonard Bernstein, Mstislav Rostropovich, Lorin Maazel, Colin Davis, Aldo Ciccolini, Paul Tortelier, Pierre Dervaux, Cyprien Katsaris, Placido Domingo, Jean Martinon and François-René Duchable, An unfailing lesson in music and sensibility.
But he was a born creator and, at thirty, that need became flagrant: he wrote and recorded Voyage Immobile , his first album. However, what fascinated him above all was the influence that music can exert on writing for film and stage. His earliest experiences, largely devoted to the theatre (Silvia Montfort, Jean Danet & 'Les Tréteaux de France', Jacques Mauclair & the Théâtre du Marais - a 'Molière' award for L'Avare in 1989), were followed by numerous contributions for television and cinema: in all, approximately 70 musical creations, amongst which we can mention Bob Swaim's The Climb with John Hurt, Ray Jafelice's Babar, roi des éléphants and Serge Moati's Jésus.
Claire Huynen's Marie et le vin was a unique experiment: for the first time, a novel was accompanied by original music that, like a film score, contributed its own musical dimension.
In 2001, he wrote the music for the restored version of Henri Diamant-Berger's 1921 film masterpiece, The Three Musketeers , based on the Alexandre Dumas novel.
A unifier, impassioned by his work as a composer, he founded and presided over (2002-2005) the UCMF (Union of Music for Films Composers) whose role is to reveal and defend the specificities of a profession undergoing a major transformation.
At the same time, his appetences as a producer having never left him, he has created Opus Millésime, a catalogue of production and publication dedicated to film and classical music. One of this label's vocations is to show off to best advantage the musical heritage bequeathed by the famous pianist-composer Robert Casadesus (1899-1972), his first cousin, through new recordings and publications of his works, as well as a website of reference (www.robertcasadesus.com).

Pierre-André ATHANÉ was born in Angers where he studied piano at the Conservatoire before moving to Paris. He has a keen interest in harmony, orchestration, theatre, performance - and composition, for which he is best known.
His melodic, sensitive, and sometimes nostalgic, music is often heard on stage, radio and television. His best known soundtracks include the French television series Thalassa «Colours of the Sea », the film « Adèle and Kamel » by Vincent Monnet. He also created the strings orchestration for the feature film « Augustin roi du kung fu» by Anne Fontaine.
He has three CDs to his name and has also written a substantial body of « library music » and featured on numerous joint productions. These projects have led to his music being used in advertisements, films and television productions all over the world.
In addition to his music for film and television, Pierre-André has written compositions for orchestra and chamber orchestra, which are regularly heard in concert and he has five musicals to his name, which have featured on stages in Europe and Canada.
He is a member of UCMF (the Union of composers of film music) and is on the committee of FFACE (the Federation of film and audiovisual composers of Europe.
